MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Ambrazevich met with Mulusew Mamo, Representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Belarus, on 8 June, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The parties discussed cooperation between Belarus and the UNHCR on the issues that fall within the Office's competence. Yuri Ambrazevich mentioned the UNHCR key contribution to supporting the efforts of the Belarusian government to resolve the situation of refugees and migrants on the Belarusian-Polish border in 2021.
In connection with the influx of refugees from Ukraine this year, the deputy minister expressed his gratitude to the UNHCR representative for coordinated and task-oriented work of all UN agencies on the matter.
Mulusew Mamo confirmed the UNHCR's readiness to continue supporting the system of asylum and international protection in Belarus. He praised traditionally good cooperation of the UNHCR Office in Belarus with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other partners, which allows to provide timely assistance to the displaced persons who need it.
