MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The UN must continue to play a key role in maintaining international peace and security, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Farrukh Sharifzoda said at the 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 28 October, BelTA has learned.
Farrukh Sharifzoda emphasized: “The development of coordinated and agreed-upon forms of interaction between the UN and regional structures operating in the Eurasian region, such as the SCO, CSTO, CIS, and CICA, is of particular importance. Such partnerships not only strengthen the potential of regional institutions but also contribute to the increased effectiveness of the UN in maintaining international peace, stability, and sustainable development.”
Highlighting Tajikistan’s active role in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Farrukh Sharifzoda noted that the organization has proven to be an effective mechanism for countering terrorism, extremism, and separatism.
“To strengthen the anti-drug efforts, Tajikistan has initiated the establishment of an SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe. The implementation of this initiative is already in the practical phase. Tajikistan also attaches great importance to developing cooperation between the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Commonwealth of Independent States, paying particular attention to addressing modern challenges and threats, including cybersecurity,” the diplomat noted.
Farrukh Sharifzoda emphasized that promoting lasting peace and stability and decent living conditions for all peoples both in Eurasia and globally is a priority of Tajikistan’s foreign policy. In this context, he recalled the international initiative of President Emomali Rahmon, presented at the 79th UN General Assembly, to adopt a resolution proclaiming the “Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations.”
