MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Marianna Shchetkina was awarded the Commonwealth Order of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in recognition of her contribution to the development and strengthening of friendship between the peoples of the CIS member states, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian Parliament.
The awards ceremony took place on 19 December. Presenting the award, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich said that Marianna Shchetkina has done a lot to enhance international cooperation and interparliamentary interaction in the CIS. Being the co-chair of the organizing committee for the fourth and fifth Forums of Regions of Belarus and Russia, she has made a great contribution to the promotion of Belarusian-Russian relations.
Being the National Coordinator for the SDGs, Marianna Shchetkina actively promotes sustainable development issues in the CIS IPA. Heading the Belarusian Union of Women, she has worked to bolster ties with the women's organizations in the CIS countries.
