MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – Belarusian parliamentarians, together with colleagues from other countries, will continue to promote the unifying agenda at various international platforms, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said during a meeting with Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Koshanov on 5 February, BelTA has learned.
“I am convinced that together with parliamentarians from other CSTO member states, we will use all possible channels to further advance the unifying agenda at various international platforms, including the OSCE PA, the geopolitical group Eurasia within the inter-parliamentary union,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
He emphasized the importance of promoting a constructive, unifying agenda at all international platforms. He underlined that Belarus opposes the politics of blackmail, sanctions, discrimination, and unfair competition.
“We can see today how many countries pursue policies aimed at dividing states, ignoring rules and procedures, and exerting pressure to push through politicized decisions,” Igor Sergeyenko noted.
Belarus, like Kazakhstan, pursues a peace-oriented foreign policy to strengthen mutual trust and good-neighborly relations, the speaker stressed.
According to him, these principles form the foundation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. “It is deeply symbolic that under Kazakhstan’s chairmanship Belarus experienced a landmark event: obtaining the status of a SCO member state. We are grateful for Kazakhstan’s support throughout the entire accession process,” he said.
Igor Sergeyenko emphasized that the foundation of cooperation between the two countries is based on mutual understanding, friendship, the defense of national interests in the international arena, support for one another, and, ceratinly, economic development, which underpins the quality of life of the people. These matters largely shape the themes of interparliamentary interaction.
Acoording to Igor Sergeyenko, Kazakhstan assumed the chairmanship of the EAEU this year. He expressed hope for continued joint work to improve the mechanisms of the organization and enhance its efficiency. “We see opportunities for economic growth in our countries and for the union as a whole,” he said.
The speaker added that Belarus closely observes and appreciates the dynamic development of friendly Kazakhstan. “You have been and remain our friends, comrades, reliable partners, and strategic allies,” he stated.
Before the meeting, Kazakhstan’s parliamentary delegation toured a photo exhibition on interparliamentary cooperation between Belarus and Kazakhstan. Yerlan Koshanov left an entry in the Book of Distinguished Guests.
