MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) - The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is studying the initiative of Belarus and Russia to build a security architecture in Eurasia, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev said at an international meeting of high-level representatives overseeing security issues, TASS reports.
“The Declaration of Astana highlights that SCO member states emphasize the importance of cooperation within the organization as a foundation for building an architecture of equal and indivisible security in Eurasia. In this context, SCO members are carefully studying the Russian-Belarusian initiative for Eurasian security architecture, as well as their Joint Vision of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century,” Nurlan Yermekbayev stated.
He also stressed that on the instructions of the leaders of the SCO countries, the modernization of the SCO is underway. Important counter-threat centers of the organization are located in Tashkent, Bishkek, and Dushanbe. The organization is actively preparing for the upcoming SCO summit in Tianjin of China, scheduled for autumn 2025.
“The results of the SCO summit will undoubtedly mark a new stage of the organization’s development. We are ready to continue working together with like-minded members of the international community to play a significant role in building a new, stable, democratic, fair, and multipolar world order,” the SCO secretary-general concluded.
Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov had previously stated that the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity is expected to be completed by the next annual Minsk conference on Eurasian security, scheduled for autumn 2025.
