MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization issued a statement on the situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, BelTA learned from the organization.
“The SCO expresses serious concern over the recent tragic events in the Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted in casualties among the civilian population and law enforcement officers, as well as damage to civilian infrastructure. In this regard, the SCO extends its deepest condolences to the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the document emphasized.
The SCO noted that unilateral sanctions have had a significant negative impact on the country’s economic stability, worsened living conditions, and objectively limited the government’s ability to implement measures for socio-economic development.
“The SCO opposes interference in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The SCO adheres to the principles of respect for sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states, and the non-use of force or threat of force in international relations. The SCO calls for a peaceful settlement of the situation through political and diplomatic means,” the statement said.
