MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, has been re-elected President of the Eurasia Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.
At the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a meeting of the Eurasia Group was convened under the chairmanship of Sergei Rachkov. The primary objective of the meeting was to coordinate the delegations’ stances on the key issues and documents of the Assembly. To this end, participants reviewed the outcomes of the recent IPU Executive Committee meeting and discussed information related to the gathering of the chairs of geopolitical groups and standing committees.
The group approved candidates for election to elected positions in the IPU bodies. Sergei Rachkov was re-elected President of the Eurasia Group within the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The Eurasia Group was established in 1998 at the 100th IPU Conference in Moscow at the initiative of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. The group’s members are the parliaments of Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
