Putin outlines CSTO priorities during Russia's chairmanship

BISHKEK, 27 November (BelTA) –  Russian President Vladimir Putin outlined the CSTO priorities in 2026 during Russia's chairmanship at the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit in Bishkek on 27 November, BelTA has learned.

According to him, the chairmanship will be held under the motto "Collective Security in a Multipolar World: Common Goal, Shared Responsibility”. "Russia will do everything to preserve continuity in the main areas of interaction in the CSTO and to develop cooperation among our states based on the principles of genuine alliance, friendship and good-neighborliness, respect and consideration for each other's interests, mutual assistance and support,” the Russian president said.

Vladimir Putin stated that over the past 10 years, the CSTO has become an authoritative regional organization. “The CSTO  guarantees stability and security in the Eurasian space, protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the member states of the organization,” he emphasized.
He noted that, given the geopolitical tensions, it is entirely logical that the task of promoting the collective interests and initiatives of the CSTO countries on the world stage is coming to the fore.

Russia will continue to work closely with its allies on all issues related to strengthening the CSTO's military capabilities. Vladimir Putin emphasized that the main efforts will be focused on enhancing the combat readiness of national contingents and improving the management of the CSTO collective forces.

In this regard, he proposed launching a large-scale program to equip the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces with modern models of Russian weapons and hardware that have proven their effectiveness in real combat operations. It is in this context that plans are in place to hold a series of joint training events for military units and special service subdivisions. These include the regular exercises Vzaimodeystviye (Interaction), Echelon, and Poisk (Search).

According to the Russian president, much remains to be done to improve the coordination of the CSTO peacekeeping forces.
One of the key priorities outlined by the Russian head of state is the development of cooperation among CSTO countries to ensure the CSTO's technological leadership in the military domain. A special emphasis is placed on deepening cooperation among defense industry enterprises. Russia will also fully facilitate the integration of the latest advancements in military medicine for the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces.

Furthermore, plans are in place to begin the joint development of a new CSTO anti-terrorist strategy and to do everything necessary for the continued resolute counteraction of extremism. Joint work will also continue on identifying and eliminating international terrorist groups and their cells, as well as on disrupting their funding channels.

Among the CSTO's most critical priorities, Vladimir Putin also highlighted information security. He stated a readiness to work closely with allies to prevent the spread of radical ideas among youth. In his opinion, additional measures are needed to protect the shared information space from such threats.
