MOSCOW, 3 January (BelTA) – The outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden and his administration are doing everything possible to leave the worst possible legacy for President-elect Donald Trump, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, TASS reports.
"In general, we have discussed the sanctions before, we forecast that until the very last day of his stay in the White House, Mr Biden and his administration would do everything to leave the worst legacy in terms of bilateral relations with Russia. They consistently follow this policy," Dmitry Peskov said.
Earlier, the United States imposed sanctions on Russians, including Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev and several top managers. Dmitry Peskov noted that Rosatom is one of the undisputed leaders in the global nuclear market and will continue its significant international activities. “It is clear that the United States will continue its efforts to undermine the positions of our companies using non-competitive means,” the spokesman said. He expressed the hope that Moscow “will be able to counter this effectively.”
Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the United States will lead to a destabilization on the energy markets. "We will closely monitor the consequences and, of course, adjust the operations of our companies to mitigate the impact of these illegitimate decisions," he concluded.
The Kremlin spokesman also informed that there are no substantive preparations for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump yet. Many countries have expressed their willingness to host the possible talks between the Russian and U.S. leaders. “There is a declared understanding and political will, because such contacts would be very necessary and advisable,” he said and added that they will look further after the administration in Washington has changed. Trump’s inauguration is scheduled for 20 January.
