Parliaments of Belarus, Serbia aim for trustworthy, friendly relations

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) - The parliaments of Belarus and Serbia are aimed at further development of cooperation, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Belarus Ilina Vukajlović, BelTA has learned.

The meeting is taking place on the occasion of the start of the ambassador’s diplomatic work in the Republic of Belarus.

“Earlier we have extended greetings on the occasion of Ana Brnabic [President of the National Assembly of Serbia] assuming her post in March 2024. Our new parliament also started its work in March following the elections. I received a message from the president [of the Serbian parliament], which contains a clear message to develop such trustworthy, friendly relations and cooperation between the legislative bodies of Serbia and Belarus. The decision to set up friendship groups testifies to the fact,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

In November 2024 the two countries will celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. “We share common history, including participation in the Great Patriotic War. 20 October will mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from the Nazis. Our 6,000 compatriots fought then on the territory of Yugoslavia and helped establish peace there as soon as possible,” the speaker stressed.
