Oliy Majlis senator outlines Uzbekistan’s interest in Belarus’ humanitarian expertise

VITEBSK, 2 September (BelTA) – Deputy Chairwoman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Science, Education, and Healthcare Oral Ataniyazova told journalists about Belarus’ humanitarian expertise Uzbekistan is interested in following an expanded-format meeting of Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova with Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, BelTA has learned.

The 3rd Belarus-Uzbekistan Women’s Forum kicked off in Vitebsk on 2 September. It is held as part of the programs outlined by the heads of the two states. “Much has been achieved in the three years of the existence of the forum. The trade turnover between Belarus and Uzbekistan amounted to about $600 million in 2024. Now our task is to reach $1 billion,” the senator noted.

She emphasized that cooperation between the two countries is now actively developing in education and healthcare. The countries focus on interaction between universities and educational programs in schools. “It is very important for us to bring up principled youth that embodies our shared traditional values: family values, human rights, peace, and stability. It is within this framework that our inter-parliamentary cooperation operates,” Oral Ataniyazova explained.

At the same time, the pace of humanitarian development is impressive. According to her, the countries have concluded about five various state regulatory documents, agreements, and treaties on science, education, and healthcare. They provide for the mutual recognition of higher education degrees and defended dissertations, and the establishment of joint scientific project contests across various fields. To date, more than 18 Belarusian higher education institutions cooperate with more than 30 higher education institutions in Uzbekistan.
At the same time, the two countries have to enhance their cooperation in healthcare. “We are impressed by Belarus’ results. Maternal mortality in Belarus is almost zero. This means that the Belarusian side has very good methods, strategies, techniques, and mechanisms. This is the experience we can adopt. At the same time, large-scale, comprehensive reforms are also underway in our country in various fields. We have something to talk about and we have somewhere to go in this direction,” Oral Ataniyazova said.

Belarus and Uzbekistan cooperate in more than 10 healthcare areas. These include oncological hematology, oncology, traumatology, infectious diseases, motherhood and childhood, and many others.

Oral Ataniyazova noted that it is time for the parties to move to other areas, for example, to develop cooperation in the science, technology and innovations. The speakers also discussed this at the meeting.

She added that the Uzbek side is also impressed by the level of Belarus’ ecological development. In achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, Belarus holds the highest position among EAEU member states, ranking 32nd.

Oral Ataniyazova added that Uzbek people highly appreciate Belarusian food products – dairy and meat ones. It is a mark of quality for the country’s residents. Furthermore, she was impressed that children in Belarus are raised with knowledge of their history and origin, representing their nation and their people. “This is a matter of great pride. I think we are moving in the right direction. The parliaments of both countries need to work more on adopting regulatory legal acts that will ensure the complete well-being and prosperity of our peoples,” she concluded.
