NATO advised to deal with own problems before trying to save the world

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) - Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova advised NATO to deal with its own problems first before making plans on how to save the world as she commented on the statements of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Afghanistan, TASS reports.

"The things-to-do for NATO are simple: solve your own problems first, refresh the theoretical framework and practical approach, and then make plans on how to save the world," she wrote in her Telegram channel.

Earlier, Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO will not allow terrorists to threaten them again from Afghanistan. But at the same time, according to him, NATO does not know exactly how much weapons and equipment they destroyed when leaving Afghanistan. "It looks like a funny monologue from the Police Academy," Maria Zakharova stressed in this regard.

As the diplomat noted, these statements indicate that NATO has lost its touch but still claims to be one of the main guarantors of international security. "NATO is a military-political bloc gone with the wind of self-confidence and destructive polices: the alliance has lost its touch and control even over itself, yet it claims a certain place in the system of international security. It's like trying to perform a microsurgery with broken tools. It is better not to," Maria Zakharova added.

Over the past 20 years, the USA provided the Afghan army with more than 6.5 million units of small arms, including M16 and M4 assault rifles, and a large amount of ammunition. During the August offensive, the Taliban seized a large amount of of U.S. weapons, communications gear, night-vision goggles and other military equipment. Al Arabiya, citing a source, reported that the Taliban also seized some military aircraft, helicopters and rockets, raising concerns with the U.S. government.
