Lukashenko, Belarus’ FM discuss steps to restore trust in relations with West

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov on 18 March to discuss step to restore trust in relations with partners, including a number of Western countries, BelTA has learned.

At the start of the meeting Aleksandr Lukashenko outlined a number of issues to be discussed. Those included the visits of the head of state, the progress in the plans to develop cooperation, including with China. The topics also included the work in the Eurasian Economic Union and preparations for the summit, taking into account Belarus' presidency in this integration union this year. Moreover, the president is also planning to hold a meeting with Belarusian ambassadors. 

“A number of issues related to some of our steps and the steps of our partners to restore confidence in relations were also discussed with the head of state. This concerned, among others, a number of Western countries,” said Maksim Ryzhenkov.

The minister did not specify the issues discussed in this context. However, in late 2024, for example, the head of state mentioned requests from the USA to expand the diplomatic presence in Belarus.
