MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – Let’s build bridges not burn them, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said at the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 31 October, BelTA learned.
The Hungarian minister opened his speech with remarks in Russia, greeting the participants of the conference and thanking them for the invitation. "Let's all hope that we will not be condemned for this discussion," said the foreign minister, whose country currently holds the presidency of the European Union.
"The lack of dialogue in the EU has made this space much less secure and competitive. If we do not return to the principle of dialogue and mutual respect, then Europe will be a much more dangerous place and will lose its growth potential in the future."
Péter Szijjártó also stressed the importance of cooperation in Eurasia. "If we do not cooperate with Eurasia, we will lose a lot. And we will gain a lot if we cooperate," the minister said.
"Let's unite! In the future, we must replace the idea of burning bridges with the idea of building new ties!" Peter Szijjarto urged.
He stressed that Hungary does not like the policy of sanctions. Moreover, the politicization of energy supplies in the EU leads to a decrease in its competitiveness. "Why is it considered normal to destroy the energy infrastructure and increase the energy risks of Europe?" the Hungarian foreign minister asked.
