FM: North Korea is prepared to contribute to building of multipolar world

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, DPRK Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui said at the 3rd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 28 October, BelTA has learned.

North Korea is attending the international security conference for the first time, Choe Son-hui noted. "The meeting is taking place at a time when strengthening security is more important than ever in the Eurasian region. North Korea views the conference as an important political forum for countries striving for independence and peace," she said.

Eurasian security is facing unprecedented challenges, the minister believes, which is why holding such conferences is particularly important. “We are prepared to respond to all threats looming over the Eurasian continent,” Choe Son-hui emphasized. “In the western part of Eurasia, we observe NATO's policy to contain Russia, while the cooperation between the United States, Japan, and South Korea is increasing tensions. Global security has been significantly shaken today largely due to the actions by the United States. The situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia remains unstable. We see various military exercises and actions targeting the DPRK, including scenarios for the potential use of nuclear weapons. We now face the threat of nuclear conflict and a threat to the security of our peninsula. No matter how the United States explains its military buildup as a contribution to regional security, in reality, it only increases tensions.”

She noted that no nation agrees with the pressure and dominance of one country over others. “DPRK President Kim Jong Un has stated that the republic is fully committed to maintaining peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and beyond. We are dedicated to preserving our country's sovereignty and fundamental interests,” the minister emphasized.

Choi Sung-hee added that the Minsk conference will hear important ideas, specifically regarding the Eurasian Charter for Diversity and a Multipolar World in the 21st Century. “It will reflect the common aspiration of all peoples for independence, justice, and peace, and will strengthen cooperation among countries in the region,” the minister said. “The DPRK government strives to maintain friendly relations with all countries in the name of justice and independence. We are also prepared to contribute to the building of a multipolar world.”

The North Korean foreign minister emphasized that the conference will make a significant contribution to the common cause pursued by all in attendance. “I hope for the achievement of substantive agreements with the support of all conference participants,” Choe Son-hui noted.
