Defense minister: Distance never an obstacle to constructive dialogue between Belarus, Vietnam

MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) – Distance between Belarus and Vietnam has never been an obstacle in the constructive dialogue between the two countries, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said during a meeting with President Luong Cuong of Vietnam on 17 December, BelTA has learned.

"Please convey my warm greetings and good wishes to President Aleksandr Lukashenko. When the National Assembly of Vietnam elected me to the presidency, I immediately received a congratulatory message from the Belarusian president and was very touched," Luong Cuong said.

Viktor Khrenin congratulated Luong Cuong on his appointment as President and highlighted important milestones in the history of bilateral relations between the countries. "Geographical distance between Belarus and Vietnam has never been an obstacle to the constructive dialogue between the two countries. After all, when there is unity of views, principles, and positions, distance is not an obstacle," he noted.

The minister emphasized the main aspects of the friendly and strategic relations between Belarus and Vietnam. "Belarus is closely following Vietnam's successes in social and economic development, in improving the living standards of the population and strengthening its authority on the international arena. All these achievements are the merit of the country's political bodies, primarily the Communist Party of Vietnam, and, certainly, the hardworking Vietnamese people. Belarus and Vietnam hold similar views on the overwhelming majority of topical issues on the international agenda. We share approaches to the formation of a fair world order based on the multipolar world and generally recognized norms of international law," he said.

He also praised the momentum in military cooperation between the two countries. "Our military cooperation contributes to improving the professional skills of servicemen, raising the level of combat readiness of the armed forces of Belarus and Vietnam, and strengthening bilateral ties between our states. In the near future we will finalize the list of joint activities of military cooperation for 2025 with an emphasis on the practical events," Viktor Khrenin said.

The minister also pointed out that the current year is a special one for Vietnam and Belarus. "This year marks important dates: 80th anniversary of Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the All-People's National Defense Festival of Vietnam and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders. We are united by historical memory and respect for the heroic deeds of our ancestors," Viktor Khrenin summed up.
