MINSK, 24 December (BelTA) - BRICS sees its appeal and influence grow more saliently, becoming the main platform to promote solidarity and cooperation between the Global South, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said at a briefing for the press while commenting on the statement by Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov on the list of BRICS partner states, TASS reported.
“The BRICS mechanism has greater representation, and BRICS sees its appeal and influence grow more saliently, becoming the main platform to promote solidarity and cooperation between the Global South,” she said.
Mao Ning said that with the partner countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Uganda) on board the BRICS family, the BRICS cooperation is elevated to a new height. The diplomat also noted that “China stands ready to work with other BRIC members and partner countries to follow the spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, expand practical cooperation in various fields, advance the high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.”
Yury Ushakov noted that Russia oversaw 250 events as part of its BRICS presidency. The agenda of these meetings covered both the areas of multifaceted interaction that had been established over the many years of BRICS existence and new areas of cooperation. According to the diplomat, Moscow was expected to support the work of BRICS in a new, expanded format, "to make sure that the new members of the group harmoniously fit into the customary arrangements, customary ways of interaction."
