MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – The formation of the Belarusian People’s Congress is proceeding dynamically, in accordance with the plan, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“Based on the information that we have, including media reports, everything is going on quite dynamically, in accordance with the approved calendar plan and in line with legislative norms regulating the election of delegates to the Belarusian People’s Congress,” said Igor Karpenko.
A total of 290 delegates from all regions will be elected; 60 deputies of the Minsk City Council of Deputies will automatically become delegates to the Belarusian People’s Congress, the head of the Central Election Commission noted. “In addition to that, 400 delegates will represent five civil society organizations. Each of these organizations will call a conference or a congress or another meeting of its highest governing body to elect 80 representatives to the Belarusian People’s Congress,” Igor Karpenko added.
