MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) – Any aggressive action will be met with an immediate response. The Belarusian political analyst Aleksei Dzermant made the statement in an article published by the Respublika newspaper as he commented on Poland's plans to reinforce the military group near Belarus' borders, BelTA has learned.
The analyst said: “The Polish government has decided to redeploy additional 2,500 soldiers to the Belarusian-Polish border. In particular, units of the 10th armored brigade that has German Leopard tanks are being redeployed to the city of Biala Podlaska, which is only 46km away from Brest. About 10,000 Polish military personnel are concentrated near our borders today. Actions of the Polish government look very much like the formation of an attack force. The Polish government justifies it by the allegedly increased threat due to stronger migrant flow. It doesn't look much like the truth because the Polish government has been cooking militarization plans for a long time. It is what we can find in words of the informal leader of Polish conservatives Jaroslaw Kaczynski. He says the strength of the Polish army will be radically increased up to 200,000 people, including 50,000 drawn as territorial defense troops.”
According to Aleksei Dzermant, the situation with migrants at the Polish border is only a pretext to justify shifting the balance of force and threatening eastern neighbors: Belarus and Russia.
The analyst went on saying: “There is no other sense in such fast militarization. Naturally we cannot overlook it and response actions are already being taken within the framework of the military and political union of Belarus and Russia. Further reinforcement of integration in military sphere was mentioned during the latest joint board session of the Russian and Belarusian defense ministries and a personal meeting of Sergei Shoigu and Viktor Khrenin in Moscow. Apart from that, Belarus and Russia actively advance military technology cooperation. We've already received a batch of cutting-edge armored personnel carriers BTR-82A. Negotiations are in progress on deliveries of air defense missile systems S-400 and Tor-M2 as well as fighter jets and helicopters.”
Aleksei Dzermant stressed that tight defense cooperation with Russia, the military political dimension of the Union State fully meet Belarus' national interests and the need to ensure security amid the aggravated situation on western borders.
“In our union we don't want to threaten anyone and we don't do anything that breaks the current balance of force. But simply watching military preparations in neighboring countries is tantamount to letting their irresponsible politicians feel their strong-arm superiority. We shouldn't do it under any circumstances. They have to understand that any aggressive action of theirs will be met with an immediate response,” Aleksei Dzermant concluded.
