Belarus seeks to strengthen strategic partnership with Uzbekistan

MINSK, 4 August (BelTA) - Belarus remains committed to deepening friendly and strategic cooperation with Uzbekistan, Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic, said during a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Belarus Rahmatulla Nazarov in Minsk on 4 August, BelTA learned.

Vitebsk is set to host the 3rd Belarus-Uzbekistan Women’s Business Forum on 28-29 August. It is co-organized by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly. Preparations for the event were discussed during today’s meeting between officials.

"We are preparing thoroughly for this forum, with the expectation that it will serve as a platform to discuss multiple areas of our bilateral agenda and identify pathways to further strengthen our friendly and strategic cooperation. I am confident it will yield tangible economic outcomes,” Sergei Aleinik said. “A series of contracts and interregional agreements are being prepared for signing. They will complement the ambitious plans set by our heads of states, namely to raise our trade and economic cooperation to $1 billion. We are steadily approaching this target.”

“Belarus and Uzbekistan are demonstrating strong trade momentum,” the MP noted. "Our bilateral trade has grown by 13% this year alone. Over the past five years, the trade has grown almost 2.5 times.”
