Belarus' Consulate General opens in China's Guangzhou

MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – A ceremony to open Belarus' Consulate General in Guangzhou, China took place during a visit of Belarus' Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Attending the event on China's behalf was Vice Governor of Guangdong Province Zhang Guangjun, representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, local business and general public.

The deputy minister stressed that the Consulate General will serve as a linking bridge between authorities, business and general public of Belarus and China at the regional level and will promote active contacts between the two countries.

Andrei Dapkiunas also discussed with the authorities of Guangdong Province the ways to intensify cooperation between Belarus and the southern regions of China in tourism, sport, investment, trade and culture. The parties expressed readiness to encourage business to take part in the projects of bilateral cooperation and processes of synchronizing economic development of the two states.

The Belarusian deputy minister of foreign affairs met with representatives of China's Wens Foodstuff Group to discuss cooperation projects in food security and agriculture.

Guangzhou also hosted the Belarusian-Chinese tourism forum with the participation of the Belarusian deputy minister of foreign affairs, representatives of the Sport and Tourism Ministry, the Belintourist subsidiary and also more than 30 representatives of tourism business, local authorities of Guangdong Province and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
