Belarus’ ambassador, Israeli MFA official discuss wide range of issues

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Israel Yuri Yaroshevich met with Senior Deputy Director General for Public Diplomacy of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yacov Livne on 11 February, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties covered a broad range of bilateral agenda items, with particular emphasis on the importance of preserving the historical memory of the tragedies of World War II and the Holocaust. In this context, they reviewed progress on the project to establish the Holocaust and Resistance Museum in Novogrudok.

Belarus pays special attention to preserving sites of historical significance for both nations, including the recent restoration of the Volozhin Yeshiva.

The parties also discussed facilitating Belarusian participation in religious events in Israel, including the ceremony of the Holy Fire descent in Jerusalem. Special focus was placed on holding commemorative events in Israel marking the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy.
