MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Inter-parliamentary relations between Belarus and Algeria are reaching a more systemic level, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko told journalists after signing a memorandum of cooperation between the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus and the National People’s Assembly of the Parliament of Algeria in Minsk on 25 May, BelTA has learned.
“Today’s visit to Minsk by the parliamentary delegation from Algeria’s National People’s Assembly marks a turning point in our bilateral ties. We are stepping up to a more structured, higher level of cooperation. This follows steady groundwork by parliamentary friendship groups and joint efforts at global forums like the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Non-Aligned Movement. After reciprocal delegation visits over the last two years, this high-level meeting sets the seal on our preliminary cooperation,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
"The MPs aim to participate actively in expanding trade and economic relations within the framework of the joint intergovernmental commission on cooperation with Algeria, as well as in promoting humanitarian contacts and cultural ties between our countries,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
The speaker of the House of Representatives added that the two countries support each other in various international forums, noting the unacceptability of the politics of dictates and sanctions, which was also discussed during the meeting.
