Just outside the town of Miory lies the breathtaking Yelnya Landscape Reserve. As Belarus’ largest lake-bog complex, this 9,000-year-old expanse spans over 25,300 hectares. It’s a land of dramatic contrasts, where 118 glittering lakes are woven through a vast raised bog.
Known as “the lungs of Europe”, Yelnya is one of the world’s cleanest places. Its peat bogs are phenomenal oxygen factories, producing ten times more oxygen than a similar area of forest. This unique environment hosts rare species like dwarf birch and cloudberry. Beneath the surface, the deep peat likely holds the secrets of ancient animals, waiting to be discovered.
