MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) – As part of the Our Children charity campaign the Belarusian Women’s Union has organized a celebration for 100 kids from Gomel Oblast and Grodno Oblast. The kids went on a tour of the National Library of Belarus, watched a festive performance, and received gifts, BelTA has learned.

The event gathered children from social and pedagogical centers and family-type orphanages. “We have invited those who are in particular need of our care, attention, and love. This year for the first time we have also invited children from Mother Gavriila’s orphanage in Grodno Oblast,” said Marina Denisevich, head of the republican office of the Belarusian Women’s Union. “We have tried to organize a New Year-themed tour so that the children could immediately immerse themselves in a fairy tale and experience a genuine miracle.”
The Belarusian Women’s Union and other organizations in the country do everything possible to ensure that children feel the spirit of the New Year’s Eve. “It is very important for children to experience emotions and feel our care. It is these emotions that they remember and carry with them from year to year. Many of the social and pedagogical centers we work with tell us that the children remember the adventures they had when they came to Minsk. And we hope that this will allow them to grow up in love and happiness,” the executive emphasized.
After the tour the children took part in an interactive game program featuring New Year’s Eve characters and watched the performance titled as The New Year’s Secret of a Magical Fairy Tale!
Piotr Belyavsky from Grodno Oblast shared that for him New Year’s Eve is associated with many festive events. He added that he was happy to be with his friends and that together they wanted to see Grandfather Frost and tell him their wishes.
Veronika Salyutina had always dreamed of visiting the National Library: “I have often watched videos from the library on social media and have always wanted to see it for myself. And now, on New Year’s Eve my dreams are coming true.” For her the upcoming holiday is associated with fun and traditions. “I have come here with my sister. It was interesting and cheerful event for us. But our main dream is to spend New Year’s Eve with a family,” she said.
Six children were brought by Tatyana Markovskaya, a teacher at the Lelchitsy District Social and Pedagogical Center. “The kids were delighted when they found out we were going to Minsk. They could hardly go to sleep last night because they were so excited. And today they were very pleased to see the library and the performance,” she said.
Volunteers offered to help and accompany the children in Minsk. One of them was Sonya Mikhnevich, a student at Minsk Radio Engineering College. “It is very important to create a festive atmosphere for children, especially on New Year’s Eve. It is these children who are often left without joy during these days. Some have no parents, some have problems in their families. Such celebrations help them feel joy,” she said.
