Uzbekistani business to expand its presence on Belarusian exchange

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) - A delegation of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) took part in the 26th international construction exhibition UzBuild in Tashkent and the 4th international exhibition AGROPRO EXPO in Samarkand. Agreements were reached to increase supplies of Belarusian timber and agricultural products to the market of Uzbekistan, BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.

The business of Uzbekistan demonstrated a substantial interest in the use of exchange trading tools for the purchase and sale of a wide range of raw and non-raw materials. In addition to importing woodworking products, representatives of Uzbek business expressed readiness to purchase meat products and feed additives at BUCE and place orders for the sale of food raw materials, including nuts and dried fruits. Plans are underway to increase the number of participants from Uzbekistan in exchange trade and also to diversify the Belarusian-Uzbek exchange trade, which will ensure its sustainability in the long run.

In 2024, Uzbekistan ranked fourth after Russia, China and Azerbaijan in the amount of exchange transactions concluded on the Belarusian trading platform. Over 90% of all transactions accounted for purchases of Belarusian sawn timber, milk powder and sugar. Among the goods supplied to Belarus through the exchange were mainly cotton yarn, which is in high demand among textile industry enterprises.

“The issue of expanding the range of goods involved in the exchange trade between the two countries, both in the exports and imports, is relevant for us. We plan, among other things, to join efforts with the Embassy of Belarus in Uzbekistan, which will help in informing Uzbek economic entities about the advantages of the exchange mechanism. The embassy will recommend using the exchange platform to work in the Belarusian market,” Olga Gorelik, First Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of the BUCE commented.

At present, a total of 188 residents of Uzbekistan are accredited on the BUCE. Three of them have the status of stock brokers. Last year, Uzbek exchange traders concluded deals totaling $54.8 million, up three times from 2023. In 2025, there has already almost been a twofold increase in trade: $9.6 million in January 2025 against $5.2 million in January 2024.
