Trade between Belarus, Russia’s Oryol Oblast multiplies in recent years

BREST, 4 August (BelTA) – Trade between Belarus and Russia's Oryol Oblast has multiplied over recent years, Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik said during the second meeting of the Belarus-Oryol working group on cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

The working group met for the first time in Brest in October 2024, with the latest session being held in Oryol. The Belarusian delegation, headed by Governor of Brest Oblast Piotr Parkhomchik who leads the working group from the Belarusian side, arrived in Russia the day before."If we look at the dynamics of the last four to five years, trade has been growing significantly. Most importantly, this is a two-way process," Piotr Parkhomchik stated. "Our meetings have become systemic." The head of Brest Oblast expressed confidence that the existing potential allows for expanding cooperation across various sectors.

Piotr Parkhomchik outlined key priority areas: "Regarding passenger transport, we're ready to supply everything from modern electric buses and hybrid trolleybuses to the full range of agricultural machinery. You're well familiar with it, purchasing our tractors and harvesters every year." He noted mutual interests in agriculture, particularly in seed production and crop variety exchange."Recognizing the importance of patriotic education of youth, we should make more active use of our regions' accumulated experience and infrastructure. For instance, Brest has launched the National Center for Youth Patriotic Education. Given our regions' specific characteristics, it would be reasonable to develop joint tourism routes and organize regular press tours," Piotr Parkhomchik suggested.

During the meeting, participants reviewed interim results of cooperation, with special focus on industrial, agricultural, cultural, sports and educational collaboration. "We will discuss in greater detail the volumes, prospects and specific projects," added Oryol Oblast Governor Andrei Klychkov. The parties signed an agreement establishing sister-city relations between Brest and Oryol.

During the visit the Belarusian delegation is set to tour several local enterprises.
