STOLIN DISTRICT, 3 December (BelTA) – A greenhouse complex for growing tomatoes round the year has been built in the agrotown of Olshany, Stolin District, Brest Oblast as part of the One District, One Project program. Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik was informed about the accomplishment at a conference with heads of private farming enterprises, BelTA has learned.
Projects are being implemented in Brest Oblast to fulfill the head of state’s instructions on providing the country with homegrown vegetables, primarily cucumbers and tomatoes. As part of the efforts a greenhouse complex occupying 4.2 hectares for growing tomatoes (including between seasons) has been built by the agricultural enterprise OlshanyAgro. The installation of a supplemental lighting system into the greenhouses is under consideration. Stolin District farmers are interested in it. Additional power supply is required to increase the production of cucumbers and tomatoes using the supplemental lighting system.
On 3 December the Brest Oblast governor met with Stolin District farmers, who grow fruits and vegetables. “It doesn’t matter whether it is a state-run or private company. What matters is whether it accomplishes state tasks. Support depends on that,” Piotr Parkhomchik assured. He also mentioned how the farmers could use fuel pellets to heat the greenhouses. Pellet plants are ready to provide the fuel pellets. The Brest Oblast governor suggested taking into account this option in new construction. “We are ready to provide support for concrete projects,” the official said.
OAO Berestye Greenhouse Complex located in Brest Oblast has also started growing tomatoes in between seasons this year. Four hectares of greenhouses have been fitted with supplemental lighting as part of the Agribusiness program for the sake of import substitution. The enterprise intends to grow 1,240 tonnes of tomatoes between November and March.
The President’s Aide, Inspector for Brest Oblast Aleksandr Lomsky, Chairwoman of the Brest Oblast branch of the State Control Committee Oksana Tsylko, Chairman of the Stolin District Executive Committee Aleksandr Pachko took part in the conference with heads of private farming enterprises.
