MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) - The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) advocates for the diversification of energy types and energy sources, SCO Deputy Secretary General Ahmad Saidmurodzoda said during the plenary session Climate Change and Sustainable Energy at the Kazenergy Eurasian Forum in Astana, TASS reports.
“In order to stimulate the clean energy market and contribute to global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, the SCO advocates for the establishment of a clean, low-carbon, efficient, and safe energy system and the diversification of energy types and sources,” he said.
The SCO deputy chief noted that the organization welcomes the measures for the coordinated development of wind, solar, hydro, nuclear, bioenergy, hydrogen energy, and energy storage technologies. He stated that the transition to renewable energy sources plays an important role in the energy order. “The SCO's efforts in this area are aimed at developing innovative technologies, promoting the green development of the energy sector, increasing the share of renewable energy sources, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” he added.
Ahmad Saidmurodzoda emphasized that the most important task for SCO member states now is to ensure the transition to sustainable energy sources, strengthen energy security, and provide the stability of international energy markets. He pointed out that traditional models can no longer guarantee energy stability, and in the context of international energy market volatility, it is crucial to enhance cooperation to protect energy infrastructure.
