MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) - Russia's share in Belarus' trade is approaching 65-70%, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said in an interview with the Russian Izvestia newspaper, BelTA has learned.
“We have always had the multipolarity policy and sought to rely on many centers of power in our foreign policy and foreign economy. But no matter how much we want to realize the principle, namely Russia accounts for one third of our interests, the collective West is another one third and the geographically distant countries – the remaining third. Still even in this configuration the role of Russia will always be prevailing,” Maksim Ryzhenkov stressed.
However, today there is no such configuration due to the sanctions imposed by Western countries. According to the minister, Russia accounts for 65-70% of Belarus's total trade.
“The political level of interaction with the Russian Federation today is so strong and robust that no other strategic direction of our foreign policy can reach it. Cultural, humanitarian ties with Russia, common history in general make it impossible to repeat such a set of relations with any other states or groups of states. The mentality of our approaches to all things modern, from traditional family life to traditional Slavic Orthodox values, cannot be repeated with any other partner,” the diplomat noted.
