Regional cooperation hailed as important for development of Belarus, Russia

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) - Strengthening regional ties between Belarus and Russia contributes to the development of the two countries, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Yuri Vorobyov said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel on 28 September, BelTA has learned.

According to him, special importance is attached to ties between the regions. "We believe that the development of our states, the Union State largely depends on cooperation between the regions. This is why the agreements (to be signed during the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia) are given great importance," Yuri Vorobyov said.

Two large contracts are planned to be signed in addition to a number of agreements of different levels. The largest of them is worth more than $30 million.

"We attach great importance to the Forum of Regions. We believe that it should take place even in these conditions [related to COVID-19]," Yuri Vorobyov noted.

As it has been reported, the events of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will be held via videoconferencing on 28 and 29 September. This decision was made following the bilateral consultations in connection with the reported increase in the number of coronavirus cases and taking into account the recommendations of Russia's Rospotrebnadzor. During the discussion, the members of the organizing committee agreed that this format would be adequate to the epidemiological situation today and would not expose the health of the participants to additional risks.
