Prospects of Mogilev Oblast agriculture development in next five years sketched out

MSTISLAVL, 2 December (BelTA) – As part of a working trip of Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi to Mogilev Oblast a government conference took place at the Mstislavl District Executive Committee on 2 December to discuss the operation and future development of the agribusiness complex in the region in the next five years, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Krutoi noted that ambitious figures constitute the foundation of the strategy on developing the agriculture in the region: it is necessary to reduce the gap behind the country’s leaders in this field.
The official said: “A 35% increase over five years. The region simply needs this pace. We intend to reach 1 million tonnes of milk with the same number of cows but with much higher yields – up to 6,000 liters per cow. A completely different food reserve is being organized for this goal. The amount of fodder collected this year is 20% higher. It is important not to ruin this fodder but convert it into milk and meat. But in order to hit the final performance targets of 2030, the fodder reserve must be improved substantially. And during today’s conference we’ve discussed in detail how a new structure of the area under crops should be set up for the sake of securing this goal. First of all, the area under grass: perennial grasses, annual grasses. It is necessary to sow more alfalfa and other kinds. But the effort requires certain planning, financial, material, and technical resources.”

The state of animal husbandry facilities has been and remains under close scrutiny. “The adopted program on building ten dairy complexes in every region every year has proved to be effective. For instance, in Mogilev Oblast in 2024 these ten facilities essentially secured the milk yield per cow that we intend to achieve: 6,200 liters per annum,” the head of the Belarus President Administration noted. “These are baseline figures. This is not just a point without losses but the volume that enables proper development of the dairy economy and recovering the financial resources spent on building these facilities.”
According to Dmitry Krutoi, five new dairy complexes will be commissioned and another five will be reconstructed in the region this year. Future plans include the continuation of this work. “Our task is to ensure parallel designing of these facilities in order to get down to actual construction work as from early 2026,” he stressed. “The final stage of field operations, preparations for the winter stall-feeding period are the topics we haven’t failed to discuss today either. Providing assistance to weak agricultural enterprises and assigning patrons to them is another form of the work.”

“As many as 58 enterprises like that have been selected all over Mogilev Oblast. Work has begun to reduce things to order. The patrons provide assistance with construction materials and people as part of voluntary labor days. They assist with keeping the cattle at these facilities and certainly with financing the investment program. They also allocate appropriate resources,” he said.

Another approach that has earned a good reputation is the creation of mobile vehicle teams. There are five of them in Mogilev Oblast for now. Dmitry Krutoi noted that additional staff will be assigned to them next year. Practice indicates that they take care of 15-20% of various kinds of agricultural work. He praised the practice as good assistance for the districts, totally different workload for the hardware, a different level of spending. The practice looks promising and in demand.

Summing up results of the conference, the head of the Belarus President Administration remarked that a good program had been put together in the region. “Everyone understands what needs to be done in every chapter. Nobody asked some additional questions about routine matters today. And I think that our task is to only fulfill this program,” he summarized.
