Priorities in cooperation between Belarus, Russia’s Tatarstan outlined

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin outlined the key areas of cooperation with Russia’s Tatarstan during his talks with the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, BelTA learned.

The prime minister said that the mutual trade attests to fruitful cooperation between the two parties. "We see new avenues of our cooperation. It is mechanical engineering. There are a lot of joint prospects; the potential is there. Another avenue is petrochemistry and related industries. I am pleasantly surprised by Tatneft. Well done! The company has been growing in such a difficult time. This really deserves respect. There are many areas for us to move forward," he added. The Belarusian head of government also mentioned civil aircraft construction among the important areas of cooperation.

Education is also an important part of cooperation. “I believe that we need to interact more intensively in those areas where our colleagues have serious advances. Our students should learn advanced technologies that are available in Tatarstan,” the prime minister emphasized.

He also touched upon cooperation in culture. "We should maintain momentum," Aleksandr Turchin said.

"I would like to thank Rustam Minnikhanov for the invitation. This is my first visit to Tatarstan, and it turned out to be very fruitful. The relations between Tatarstan and Belarus go way back, and the figures attest to that. Mutual trade is balanced. The volumes of exports to Tatarstan and what we import are approximately the same. So we complement each other very well. During the visit visits to enterprises, we have mapped out a number of new projects on which we will work after signing the minutes of our meeting. This is in addition to traditional areas (machine building, petrochemicals, civil aircraft construction). I think that we will launch on interesting new projects’ soon. We will also keep the momentum going in humanitarian cooperation, education, culture and healthcare," the prime minister added.
