Prime minister calls for increasing Belarus-Uzbekistan trade turnover

MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan have something to strive for as far as mutual trade turnover is concerned. Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksandr Turchin made the statement as he met with First Deputy Economy and Finance Minister of Uzbekistan Ilhom Norqulov, BelTA has learned.

Uzbekistan is a strategic partner for Belarus, the prime minister stressed. “Analyzing the figures of our mutual trade turnover, one can say that we have something to strive for,” he pointed out.
On the whole, Aleksandr Turchin remarked that cooperation between the two countries is intensive. “With pleasure I can mention the growth of trade turnover this year but it is necessary to increase it even more. Today our country’s cooperation with Uzbekistan is based on more than trade. Our businessmen vigorously invest in major projects in Uzbekistan. As an example one can mention a major enterprise for processing poultry meat and a garment enterprise that operates in Uzbekistan today,” the Belarusian head of government noted.

Interaction in various spheres is intensive. Among other things a number of practice-oriented events are organized such as the Belarus-Uzbekistan women’s business forum, which took place in Vitebsk not so long ago, as well as sessions of the intergovernmental commission. Bilateral interaction proceeds actively and intensively, Aleksandr Turchin added.
The prime minister stressed that the Uzbek delegation has a packed itinerary of the visit to Belarus and heads of various economy branches and major Belarusian enterprises had been invited for today’s meeting. The parties are expected to discuss all the proposals and matters of expanding Belarus-Uzbekistan interaction as broadly as possible.
