PM: Belarus' GDP up by 4% in 2024

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The GDP of Belarus rose by 4% in 2024, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he summarized the economic performance of the country in 2024, BelTA has learned.

The economic performance will be detailed a little later, but the key macroeconomic indicators are already out, Roman Golovchenko said. "We started 2024 with a rather challenging task set by the president’s decree. The head of state emphasized that it is a difficult but feasible task. Based on these guidelines, we developed a kind of mobilization plan to achieve these goals," he pointed out. "The system of general government indicators was divided into smaller tasks. Every industrial enterprise knew their specific task."

The government monitored the progress of these tasks weekly, the prime minister added. "Numerous strategic decisions were made. In some cases, we needed to support enterprises, in others – to spur them. Thanks to these efforts and, certainly, the instructions of the president, who kept the economic situation in focus, we achieved results that can be described as quite good," Roman Golovchenko stressed.

The key indicator of economic development in the country is gross domestic product. "Our target was 3.8%, but in fact we grew by 4%. We also had a rather challenging task regarding the inflation rate: not to exceed 6%. It was quite difficult. We also achieved a significant increase in household incomes, which also impacted inflation. Nevertheless, with the target of 6%, the actual inflation rate was 5.2% in 2024,"the prime minister said.
