KRUPKI DISTRICT, 30 November (BelTA) – A new plant to make professional peat soil has been opened in Krupki District, Minsk Oblast, BelTA has learned.
The new plant Turshovka is a branch of the peat briquette manufacturer OAO TBZ Usyazh. It is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment for peat cutting and peat substrate production, including a 6m3 press with a separation line and a transport gallery for feeding and transporting peat. The project’s implementation will enable OAO TBZ Usyazh to expand its range of peat products with new consumer properties and organize the production of high-quality non-fuel peat products that are in demand on the domestic market and foreign ones.
The plant’s output capacity is 32,500 tonnes of products per year. With an increase in the number of production shifts, it is possible to increase the volume of peat production to 90,000 tonnes per year.
Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Aleksei Kushnarenko noted that one of the priorities of Belarus’ five-year social and economic development plan will be strong regions taking into account their peculiarities. “Large deposits of peat with sought-after characteristics represent a peculiarity of Krupki District. That is why the decision has been made to build a new modern peat manufacturing plant on the basis of the old Turshovka enterprise,” he added.
In his opinion, it is a colossal investment in the district, creating modern jobs with the possibility of decent earnings. The project also offers the highest technologies and products that are in demand both domestically and in foreign markets.
Aleksei Kushnarenko pointed out that it is important that such enterprises are located in small population centers where they are essentially the main employer. “And we understand that the living standards of local residents depend on the development of such enterprises. Therefore, this project will undoubtedly strengthen the region and serve as an impetus for its development,” he is convinced.
Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz emphasized that peat is a national treasure for Belarus. “For example, we produce about 1 million tonnes of peat per year, which is used for energy purposes and burned in boiler rooms. But apart from that, we pay a lot of attention to the development of a new direction: the use of peat as a soil for growing agricultural products. Apart from that, a lot of attention is paid to a promising direction: the deep processing of peat and the production of humates from it. At present peat products are shipped to nine countries around the world. This is a fairly good indicator,” he believes.
Despite all the difficulties associated with high humidity and rains the enterprise has managed to extract enough peat to process and supply to consumers, Denis Moroz noted. “I would like to note that, for example, neighboring countries have fulfilled their tasks by 30% or 70% at most. Our figure is significantly higher. We have almost reached our target of around 100%. Therefore, Belarusian peat bogs operate at full capacity, meeting the needs of not only the energy sector but also the agricultural sector,” the minister concluded.
The first contracts have also been signed with Chinese partners, according to which deliveries to the People’s Republic of China from warehouses of the new plant will begin as early as December. Apart from that, a distribution agreement has been signed for shipping peat products to Uzbekistan in 2026.
The managing company of the holding company OAO Belgazstroy was the general contractor for building the new plant. The work was performed by OOO Belgaznaladka, SUP Promtoplivostroy, and SUP Ivatsevichitoplivostroy.
