LYUBAN DISTRICT, 23 May (BelTA) - Potash reserves in Belarus are estimated to last more than 120 years, Ivan Golovaty, First Deputy Director of the Mining and Processing Complex (MPC) in Lyuban District, BelTA learned.
Ivan Golovaty said that thanks to the strategic decision by the Belarusian president, a mining and processing plant was built in Lyuban District in due time.
"It will mine ore and process it into high-quality potash fertilizers for about 50 years. This will, among other things, give an impetus to the development of Lyuban District and bring additional revenue to the country," Ivan Golovaty said. "This is a minimum of 50 years. All the plants under construction have balance reserves. But as exploration proceeds, these reserves are revised upward, including this deposit. I think that 50 years is a minimum.”

According to him, the same can be said about the mines in Soligorsk. Initially, it was estimated that the reserves would last for half a century, but these mines have been developed for more than 60 years already. “In general, potash reserves in Belarus have been explored and are estimated to last for more than 120 years,” Ivan Golovaty said.

During the visit to Lyuban District, which was dedicated to the commissioning of the mining and processing complex, the president of Belarus told the government to plan the construction of a new mining and processing plant. As Ivan Golovaty explained, several mines are being developed in the country. Upon finishing one construction project, Belarusian miners move on to other sections of the deposits.
"The same applies to Lyuban District. The Starobin deposit covers a large area. Currently, we are considering the construction of the Smolovky site, which has already been explored. There is also a small Lyuban site. Therefore, the enterprise has good prospects," Ivan Golovaty said.
The complex's capacity is designed for the extraction of 15,000 tonnes of ore per day. According to the latest data, since the resumption of operations, more than 300,000 tonnes of ore have been brought to the surface from the mine, with over 12 kilometers of underground workings completed.

Currently, the enterprise is finishing the construction of the beneficiation plant. For now, the ore will be stored in a special warehouse, and later, the production of potash fertilizers will begin. "To start commissioning work, we need to accumulate a certain amount of ore, which is what we are currently working on," Ivan Golovaty added.
