GRODNO, 28 June (BelTA) – A new 120MW gas turbine at Grodno CHPP-2 got the trial run on 28 June, BelTA learnt from the Assistant Director of Grodnoenergo Company Boris Esenkov.
The equipment installed at the CHPP-2 in Grodno as part of a major modernization project was started this morning. The turbine was in operation for about 1.5 hours. The city received the first megawatts of electricity produced by the new turbine.
CHPP-2 tested the synchronization and control systems. The trail run was recognized as successful, and did not reveal defects, the plant reported.
The plant will continue to work on start-up works, increasing the workload and testing. After that the equipment will be launched to run at full capacity.
Technical modernization of Grodno CHPP-2 is carried out in accordance with the comprehensive state program for the modernization of basic production assets of the Belarusian energy system. The project “Grodno CHHP-2. Modernization with Installation of Gas Turbine" is carried out with the use of the loan from the Export-Import Bank of India. As a result of the modernization, the capacity of Grodno CHHP-2 will double to 305MW.
Grodno CHPP-2 was put into operation in 1970. It is the biggest producer of electricity in Grodno Oblast.
