New BelExpo head appointed

MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Sergei Baran has been appointed director of the republican unitary enterprise National Exhibition Center BelExpo. He has been a deputy director working as the acting head of the enterprise up till now, BelTA has learned.

The newly appointed executive said: “In this complicated period of time when it is extremely difficult and often impossible to hold mass events, particularly international ones, we've managed to preserve equilibrium by redistributing forces in the team and by optimizing the resources. I am convinced that the next year will give us the ability to hold such events that will allow restoring balance in the branches of the economy that have been particularly affected by the crisis and will allow bolstering the industries that have been priority ones and the most stable ones in our country for many years. Because an exhibition is one of the strongest tools at the disposal of business.”

The BelExpo director also shared new strategic goals. “One of the key goals is to raise the level of organization of exhibition and congress events in our country. We will aspire to make them compliant with requirements of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and get them properly certified. It is a priority matter from the point of view of attracting foreign partners, delegations, and investors and from the point of view of compliance with the level of the future national expo center,” Sergei Baran stressed. In his words, the matter of the legal and regulatory framework of exhibition activities and the formation of a full-fledged legal base in this field remains of current interest. BelExpo will cooperate with the government agencies concerned in order to initiate the development of legislation meant to regulate the operation of exhibition organizations.

Apart from that, according to the new director, the matter of personnel training remains important. “At present no Belarusian universities train exhibition management personnel. We will try to provide the methodical base for further training of such specialists at the international level,” he said.

The national expo center BelExpo is the leading and largest specialized exhibition organization enterprise in Belarus. It is a member of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a member of the Union of Builders of the Republic of Belarus. The enterprise realizes more than one third of the exhibition events that take place in the country.
