Mogilev Oblast, Novosibirsk Oblast to expand interregional contacts

MOGILEV, 22 January (BelTA) – Mogilev Oblast of Belarus and Novosibirsk Oblast of Russia agreed to promote and expand interregional cooperation at the meeting of Mogilev Oblast Governor Vladimir Domanevsky with a delegation of Novosibirsk Oblast led by governor Andrei Travnikov on 22 January, BelTA has learned.

“Novosibirsk Oblast is a manufacturing and technology hub of the Russian Federation. This rapidly developing region is of interest to us in many ways. We have been trading with the region for a long time. Our products are in demand there and we are determined to build up momentum in our trade and economic cooperation and to boost retail trade,” Vladimir Domanevsky said answering a question of a BelTA reporter.

Top on the agenda were cooperation opportunities in the humanitarian field, education, science, healthcare, and culture. “Apart from that, we would like to intensify economic contacts. This pertains to investments, establishment of joint ventures and manufacturing of products that will sell well in external markets,” Vladimir Domanevsky said.

In turn, Andrei Travnikov confirmed the plans of Novosibirsk Oblast to step up cooperation with Mogilev Oblast. He expressed interest in importing Mogilev-made elevators, tires for heavy-duty vehicles, foodstuffs and new commodity groups, and in expanding bilateral trade. “We have a great number of ideas and projects in education and science, as well as healthcare. We are going to set up working groups to coordinate and manage this work. We will soon draft an action plan and cooperation projects for the coming two or three years,” he said.

A twin town agreement was signed between the Gorky District Executive Committee and the Administration of Koltsovo, Novosibirsk Oblast. A cooperation agreement was concluded between Mogilev State University of Food Technologies and Siberian University of Consumer Cooperation (Novosibirsk).

During their three-day visit to Mogilev Oblast, the Novosibirsk delegation will tour a number of industry giants, social and cultural facilities and landmarks of Mogilev and the region. The visit will conclude with a concert by the Siberian State Academic Russian Folk Choir at the Palace of Culture.
