
MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – Minsk maintained high pace of economic development in January-February 2025 despite the high base of the previous year, Minsk Mayor Vladimir Kukharev said as he met with the Belarusian president, BelTA learned.
Vladimir Kukharev started his report with economy which he called the foundation of the city development. According to the mayor, last year the city achieved certain results and met all the targets.
"This year we are trying to keep the momentum. In January-February the city kept the pace despite the high base of last year," Vladimir Kukharev said. According to him, the gross regional product rose by 6.4% in January-February 2025. “We think that we will manage to keep the momentum going forward,” he added.
Industrial production index went up by 8.9%, retail - 13%. Speaking about retail, Vladimir Kukharev said: "This shows that people have money and spend it to buy goods. Wholesale turnover increased by 6.8%.
"We urge the enterprises to tap into new sales markets. The city's economy is export-oriented. Given the amount of goods manufactured in the city we need new markets. This is our goal,” Vladimir Kukharev emphasized.
