Logistics, transport named priority avenues in Belarus-Latvia cooperation

MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – Logistics and transport are priority avenues in Latvia's cooperation with Belarus. The fact was mentioned by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Belarus Einars Semanis at an event held to mark the 101st anniversary of Latvia's independence, BelTA has learned.

The ambassador underlined the importance of close good neighborly relations between Belarus and Latvia. In his words, there is positive dynamics in bilateral cooperation, including the exchange of visits. The ambassador drew attention to regular Belarusian-Latvian consultations on political and consular affairs. “Latvia supports the advancement of the Belarus-EU dialogue,” he said.

Speaking about the development of economic relations, the diplomat described them as dynamic as well. “Belarus is an important economic partner for us,” he remarked. He also pointed out the development of the legal base the bilateral cooperation relies on.

Einars Semanis described the Belarusian-Latvian intergovernmental commission as an important cooperation tool. Matters relating to ways to strengthen economic cooperation are discussed at its sessions. Logistics and transportation are priority avenues of cooperation, the ambassador stressed.

In his opinion, rich experience of cooperation has been accumulated in the area of culture, education, and sport. Einars Semanis mentioned serious preparations in Belarus and Latvia for the forthcoming 2021 ice hockey world championship.

“Mutual trust and understanding represent an important cornerstone of bilateral cooperation,” the head of the diplomatic mission concluded.

In turn, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko stressed that Belarus-Latvia cooperation develops across the board and relies on a solid historical foundation. He drew attention to Latvia's constructive role in advancing the dialogue between Belarus and the European Union.
