Logistics, switch to transactions in national currencies discussed at CIS Economic Council session

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Ways to ensure transport security, the expansion of transport corridors, and the transition to transactions in national currencies will help improve the efficiency of cooperation between countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Yuri Shuleiko made the statement at a session of the CIS Economic Council in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, BelTA has learned.

According to Yuri Shuleiko, collective efforts of the CIS countries in transportation and logistics should be concentrated on forming new transport corridors and on expanding the throughput capacity of existing ones.

“Ensuring transport security remains an important matter. The updated concept for harmonizing the national systems of air traffic organization of the CIS member states, which is being passed today, is geared towards increasing the security and economic efficiency of regular civil aviation flights and towards increasing the quality of service of air traffic. Raising the degree of solidarity in matters concerning the counteraction of illegal sanctions-based pressure from third countries remains a topical matter for the Commonwealth of Independent States. They impede companies and our citizens,” Yuri Shuleiko noted.

Restrictions on and prohibitions against the movement of not only goods and services but also bank payments represent a consequence of the sanctions-based policy of the West.

“Transition to transactions in national currencies is seen as a way out. In 2024 the share of national currencies in commercial operations of the CIS member states exceeded 85%. It significantly increased the economic security of our Commonwealth,” Yuri Shuleiko stressed.
