Lithuanian investor to produce industrial chips in FEZ Vitebsk

VITEBSK, 23 May (BelTA) – VMG WoodArt plans to launch the production of industrial chips in FEZ Vitebsk in Q1 2020, BelTA learned from director of the company Aleksei Yakovlev.

The launch of the production is the first stage of a large-scale project to set up a vertically integrated woodworking company. The project is implemented in FEZ Vitebsk by the international holding company VMG with the central office in Klaipeda, Lithuania. It unites several companies in Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine and is one of the largest producers and exporters of furniture and chipboard to the Baltic states.

Among the major consumers of Vitebsk industrial chips will be the companies of the holding company in Mogilev and Klaipeda. The pre-project preparations are almost ready. The investor hopes that the preparatory stage of construction in sector No1 of FEZ Vitebsk will soon begin.

The second stage envisages the launch of the production of sawing materials and furniture. The construction will begin in early 2020. The talks are also held with IKEA Group, a partner of the project, on the production output and the portfolio of the future furniture manufacturing company in Vitebsk.

The investment in the project will make up about €80 million. The investor has allocated some €10 million to develop the engineering infrastructure and increase the energy capacity of the site.

Plans are also in place to use the Vitebsk site to produce CLT wood panels for monolithic wooden house-building, Aleksei Yakovlev said.
