Krutoi: Mogilev Oblast shows positive economic momentum

MOGILEV, 13 February (BelTA) - Although Mogilev Oblast did not meet the key social and economic development target for 2025, very positive trends are emerging in the region, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi told the media while summing up the results of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee meeting on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

“The key indicator - gross regional product (GRP) - was not met. But on the other hand, the region has hit a number of other important benchmarks and we are starting to see some really positive momentum,” he said.
According to Dmitry Krutoi, the successful implementation of the investment program provides a positive foundation for the future. The region has been showing growth rates exceeding 110% for several years now. Investments are coming from all sources, and the technical modernization of enterprises directly determines their prospects.

The main “culprits” behind the GRP shortfall were state-owned industrial enterprises, achieving only 91% of production targets. Meanwhile, private and municipal enterprises met their targets.

“A number of state enterprises are facing difficulties. These are primarily related to the current state of export markets - the Russian Federation market and markets of other countries where they have traditionally been present. That is why today we reviewed options for anti-crisis programs and actions for the management of these organizations and their marketing departments, because, as our president noted, wartime necessitates total personnel mobilization,” Dmitry Krutoi said.
The meeting discussed anti-crisis programs and export support measures. Financial instruments and preferences may be provided by the Development Bank and the National Bank under two conditions: the existence of long-term export contracts with stable repatriation of foreign currency revenue, and the implementation of investment projects with well-developed business plans.

“We have never had such opportunities for exporters as we have now,” said the head of the Belarus President Administration. He also noted that exports remain a priority, given the openness of the economy, working in external markets will be a key element of overall success.

It was also noted that the region’s livestock sector recorded a shortfall of 33,000 tonnes of milk and 20,000 tonnes of meat products, despite a good harvest and last year’s feed procurement exceeding targets by 15-20%. Programs for the construction of dairy farms, calf nurseries, and equipment purchases are being implemented in full.
Problems with preparations for spring field work were also noted. Issues regarding the supply of fertilizers, seeds, and equipment readiness require prompt resolution in the shortest possible time.
