International technical aid project on wind energy nearly over in Belarus

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – A seminar has been held to sum up results of the international technical aid project designed to remove barriers standing in the way of development of wind energy in Belarus. The project's supervisor Marina Belous talked about the project's results during the seminar, BelTA has learned.

Among other things the project was supposed to improve the state registry of renewable energy sources and submit proposals on amending the legislation. Marina Belous said: “In particular, we've worked out proposals on calculating the tariff for renewable energy installations, including wind energy ones, on the basis of the invested capital method. Documents have been drafted on implementing the Paris Climate Agreement. We've also prepared a package of proposals on introducing a system of green certificates in our country. The certificates confirm every kilowatt of the green energy that has already been generated.”

The project also touched upon technical standards and norms. “We've worked out four standards that have already been introduced and two technical codes of established practice,” the project's supervisor noted.

Reducing the risks involved in investing in wind energy in Belarus was another important goal of the project. “This component was aimed at implementing various educational programs and building up the potential of local engineering companies,” Marina Belous explained.

The international technical aid project designed to remove barriers standing in the way of development of wind energy in Belarus has been going on since 2015. The project's donors are the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Development Program while the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry is the national performing organization. The main purpose of the project is to provide assistance with the development of the wind energy industry in Belarus and raise direct investments.
