Insufficient measures to return accounts receivable from Russia to Belarus

MOSCOW, 10 December (BelTA) – Belarusian companies could put more efforts into recovering accounts receivable from Russian contract partners. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko made the statement during the conference held in Moscow on 8 December with distributors of Belarusian products to discuss ways to reduce overdue accounts receivable and return foreign currency earnings to Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that it is up to heads of companies and distributors to keep their accounts receivable manageable. However, the measures they take are often limited to requests for the embassy's assistance. While the embassy enjoys proper understanding and response from the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia, it cannot operate as a commercial disputes court in a bankruptcy process and cannot find debtors.

The ambassador pointed out it is necessary to be pro-active when contracts are signed, when the fulfillment of contracts is monitored. He encouraged Belarusian companies to appeal to courts in a timely manner and keep an eye on the execution of court rulings. “These are the minimal actions, which are necessary in order to avoid uncollectable debts,” stressed Vladimir Semashko.

The ambassador also mentioned major deficit in trade with Russia, which Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko had given instructions to minimize. Distributors of Belarusian products should contribute to the fulfillment of this task, said the ambassador.
