Household expenses up by 17.2% in Belarus in 2018

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – In 2018 cash expenses per household in Belarus reached Br1,149.3 per month (Br980.7 in 2017), or up by 17.2%. The Belarusian Statistics Committee cited the data with reference to the household living standards survey, BelTA has learned.

Of them Br872.3 accounted for consumer spending. Their share in cash expenses reduced from 77.1% in 2017 to 75.9%.

Expenses on food accounted for 38.9% of household consumer spending, those on non-food for 32.9% and on services 25.2%. The share of expenses on food decreased by 1.8% while the share of non-food and services expenses inched up by 1.1 and 0.7% respectively.

Disposable resources per household amounted to Br1,217 per month (Br1,043.5 in 2017), including Br1,302.1 in cities and urban areas, and Br995.8 in rural areas.

Disposable resources are monetary assets of households, the cost of privately grown and consumed food minus the material cost of growing this food and the cost of privileges and bonuses received in kind.

Consumer spending is the money spent by households on food (including public catering), alcohol, tobacco products, non-foods, and services. Consumer spending does not include taxes, financial assistance and other expenses not related to consumption, and all costs associated with the production of agricultural goods in smallholdings and saving (bank deposits, purchase of real estate, foreign exchange and so on).
