Gomel Oblast food sells well in Ukraine

ZHITOMIR, 4 October (BelTA) – Food products from Gomel Oblast enjoy steady demand among Ukrainians. Gomel Oblast Governor Gennady Solovei made the statement at the plenary session of the 2nd Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine, BelTA has learned.

The governor said: “So far this year Gomel Oblast industrial enterprises have supplied southern neighbors with products worth two times as much as in the same period of last year. Gomel Meat & Dairy Company takes persistent steps to build up its presence on the Ukrainian market.” He specified that, for instance, butter shipments have increased by 30 times since the beginning of the year.

Over 600 product titles from Gomel Oblast enjoy steady demand on the Ukrainian market. It is primarily true for the Belarusian steel mill BMZ and for Gomelglass. “We hope [the mechanical engineering company] Gomselmash will increase sales,” Gennady Solovei noted.

Mogilev Oblast Governor Leonid Zayats mentioned agriculture as one of the priority areas of cooperation with Ukraine. In his words, Mogilev Oblast makes a broad range of agricultural machines. Apart from that, the oblast is ready to cooperate in such areas as crop husbandry, animal husbandry and ready to set up joint ventures in these spheres.

Brest Oblast Governor Anatoly Lis invited Ukraine to work out joint projects eligible for European Union funding. With this in mind it is necessary to polish applications for the next contest of small grants within the framework of the Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020 transboundary cooperation program. “It will open up prospects for implementing various initiatives in the spheres of scientific and innovative activities, for restoring and reconstructing major infrastructure facilities, for organizing socially important events with a view to improving living standards in our regions,” he remarked.
