EAEU urged to speed up transition to payments in national currencies

YEREVAN, 1 October (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should speed up transition to payments in national currencies between its member states, Armenia Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the expanded-attendance session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Yerevan, BelTA has learned.

“We believe that it is necessary to channel our efforts into creating favorable conditions for transition to payments in national currencies between the EAEU member states,” he said.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, despite the positive dynamics, there remain areas, in particular, the gas market, where prices for the EAEU products are not given in national currencies of the EAEU countries. “This is why stepping up cooperation in the field of national currencies should be among our priorities,” he added.

The agenda of the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council includes the concept of the formation of the EAEU common financial market. “This is a serious step towards establishing common financial space as well as a prerequisite for developing a modern payment system of the EAEU and creating favorable conditions for transition to payments in national currencies,” Nikol Pashinyan stressed.
